EDITORIAL - He really not need fear the legal process

The Freeman

So the Philippine National Police said that they suspect that Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader Apollo Quiboloy is just holed up at the KOJC compound in Davao City and not hiding somewhere else after all.

Well, this makes it easier for them to go get him, but this also makes it harder for them to go get him. While they might now know where he is, he is surrounded by thousands of his followers who have previously shown that they are willing to interfere in police operations. He is also in a place that is essentially his fortress, a fortress that has tunnels and other secret areas, according to the police.

Now the PNP is saying they are "gearing up for a long battle to arrest the fugitive preacher" who is wanted for child abuse and human trafficking charges along with co-accused Cresente Canada, Ingrid Canada, Jackielyn Roy, and Sylvia Cemanes, whom police believe are also within.

In past editorials we have written about how a previous arrest of a religious leader --Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association leader Ruben Ecleco Jr.-- turned into a bloodbath. And how we hope this will not be the case with Quiboloy.

And, thankfully, for now we don’t see signs that KOJC members are ready to resort to violence if need be.

Nobody wants violence, even if it’s just a scuffle that results more in bruised egos than actual scratches. The KOJC should allow the judicial process to happen and not prevent his arrest. They should allow the law to take its course.

Again, even Jesus Christ, whom the religious group purports to follow, willingly submitted himself to the law of the land during his time. Quiboloy, a self-appointed son of God, should be able to do the same.

Because unlike that same man who was surrounded by people calling for his crucifixion 2,000 years ago, Quiboloy isn’t lacking in resources or support, he can surround himself with the best lawyers in the country. He can get the best legal help his millions can afford. He really not need fear the legal process.
