Opinion

Ice cream and the tomato vendor

THE EAR - The Freeman

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY.  An  Ear informer  brought his family to a small grocery store in Minglanilla now owned by a chain of supermarkets in Metro Cebu to buy a gallon of ice cream. The informer’s wife picked a red bucket with four flavors of ice cream and joined the long queue of other shoppers. But when the wife reaches the counter, the cashier astoundingly told her: "Hala mam, dili pa ra ba na baligya kay wala pa nay presyo." The wife held her horses, but it was the husband who asked the cashier: "Unsa man diay ni inyong ice cream day, for your eyes only? If dili na ninyo ibaligya, kuhaa na ninyo sa freezer." The cashier just stared at the angry informer.

"MALDITONG  TIKETERO." A tomato vendor in Minglanilla Public Market narrated to The Ear how she was harassed by a "tiketero." The vendor was packing her tomatoes for distribution to vegetable dealers when the "tiketero" asked her to pay for the "arkabala." When the vendor plead him to come back as no one paid her for her tomatoes, the "tiketero" shouted to her: "Mao na lang gyud ni akong balikon? Iyabo ko nuon ning imong kamatis!"
