It's not over till it's over

I had a good night's sleep Monday night. After Gilas Pilipinas beat the Shanghai Sharks of China in their friendship game at the SM Arena in Manila.

Earlier in the day, the famous Yao Ming was quoted as saying: “Filipinos can be the best (cagers) but they must beat China first.” Well, they did, didn't they?

UNA's Toby Tiangco expects an intensified black propaganda against UNA as the election campaign draws to a close. Oh, well, isn't that part of our political tradition?

Two of my favorite senatorial candidates -- Riza Hontiveros and Bro. Eddie Villanueva -- are struggling in the surveys. But it's not yet over till it's over. The fat woman hasn't come out yet.

A lot of people don't believe in surveys. The “dejados” always remind us of what happened to Mar Roxas, my favorite Veep bet in the 2010 elections. Mar was leading Jojo Binay by a mile until the last two minutes, so to speak, when all of a sudden Binay sprung the big surprise.

That's why many election watchers today don't give much trust to surveys. That's why those who are out of the surveyors' winning circle are not losing hope. They keep on fighting. They should.

A building in China whose architecture looks like a man's phallus or penis is the subject of controversy among the Chinese and foreigners. Some friends when asked to comment on this building said let it stand erect in the name of tourism.

Randy Calderon of Cagayan de Oro, a high school classmate in Ateneo de Cagayan (now Xavier U) called up to express his joy over the joining in one party of Mindanaoans Koko Pimentel and Migz Zubiri.

Randy was referring to the senatorial lineup of the Cebu-based Alayon led by Cebu's First District kingpin sir Eddiegul. “Oj, Bai Nitz, sa Cebu ra ni apan nindot na kaayong paminawon nga nagkakuyog ang among mga manok sa usa ka balota," Randy said.

OVERHEARD. Some parents from Tabunok, Talisay City were discussing the news about the arrest of Joavan Fernandez by the police. Said one mother: “Gitubag na gyud ni Lord ang akong pangaliya.” She was reminded of her promise to dance the sinug. She said: “Mobayad ra ko sa mga namaligya'g kandila...sila na lang magsinug para nako.”
