Capitol rewards two Cebu centenarians with P100K
CEBU, Philippines — Two centenarians from different towns in southern Cebu received P100,000 each from the Cebu provincial government.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia personally handed over the checks to the two centenarians from Dalaguete town and Argao town last March 18, 2025 during the Caravan of Government Services held at the Sec. Cerge M. Remonde Sports & Cultural Center in Argao.
Raymund Jabagat Monceda from Barangay Caliongan, Dalaguete, and Leocadia Sarmiento of Barangay Bulasa in Argao received the cash aid from the Capitol. It is the Capitol's way of appreciating the centenarians for their long years of service and contributions to their communities.
According to Sugbo News, the official media arm of the Capitol, Monceda, a former farmer, is a proud father of 12, as well as a grandfather to 48 and a great-grandfather to 52.
Despite his age, Monceda remains in good health and has never needed maintenance for medication, which he attributed to his diet of fish and vegetables.
Sarmiento, who also reached the age of 100, was recognized and awarded by the Provincial Government in honor of her long and fulfilling life.
Both centenarians were praised for their contributions to their communities, serving as examples of longevity, strong family values, and resilience.
Aside from the financial incentive, the centenarians also received adult wheelchairs and ABAG Sugbo QR-coded cards, which entitled them to free medical checkups and medicines in any of the 16 Capitol-run hospitals.
Their guardians were also awarded with certificates of entitlement for the Sugbo Kahanas, ensuring them slots in the Capitol’s technical and vocational skills training program.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 also gave assistance, through food packs and an additional P2,000 cash each, while the Department of the Interior and Local (DILG)-7 gave slippers and five kilos of rice to the centenarians. (CEBU NEWS)
