CEBU, Philippines — A group of children in conflict with the law underwent a disaster and leadership training at Alta Resort in Cordova town.

The event organized by the City's Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) focused on disaster response and leadership training for out-of-school youth under the City’s After Care Program.

A total of 30 youngsters who are identified as Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and Children in Need of Special Protection (CNSP) benefited the program.

Representatives from the Philippine Red Cross facilitated sessions on emergency response and first aid, while the DSWS staff provided guidance for the youth.

The City’s Public Infirmation Office reported that the initiative is part of Cebu City’s ongoing effort to support vulnerable children, helping them reintegrate into the society through education, training, and social development programs.

Earlier, the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) also initiated a drug symposium at the Binaliw National High School.

The COSAP has been proactive in organizing drug symposia in various schools, barangays, and organizations to educate Cebuanos about the ill-effect of substance abuse.

The COSAP has also been conducting barangays’ assessment for the Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP) together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7.

Among the barangays that are hoping to get drug-cleared recently include Bonbon, T.Padilla, and Poblacion Pardo. — JG (FREEMAN)
