SK execs reminded to be responsible

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has reminded the officials of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in Cebu Province that holding public office is not merely a status symbol but a serious responsibility.

The Governor addressed SK leaders from various towns and cities, highlighting their crucial role in shaping their communities through government programs and projects.

“Mao bitaw I needed for you to realize that nidagan man mo, nagpapili man mo, that position carries a huge responsibility. Dili na para sa status or honor or ipangpuno sa resume,” Garcia told the SK Federation Presidents during their meeting for the Sugbovlog program.

Garcia's remarks came after learning that two SK Federation Presidents from the town of Moalboal and the city of Danao failed to submit entries for the Sugbo Vlog program.

The Sugbo Vlog Challenge, initiated by the Cebu Provincial Government through the SK Federation Office, encourages local SKs to create vlogs promoting their respective local government units (LGUs). This initiative aims to involve the youth in government projects and showcase local tourism and community features.

“Unsa may mga scenic spots, tourist attractions. How would you sell to the tourist your LGU kay nahibalo gyud ta, kay tourism is economic driver, daghan kaayo makapangita og panginabuhi kon daghan ang mobisita sa atong lugar, and you can play a very important role. It's no excuse nga bata mo,” Garcia told the young officials during their meeting at the Capitol Social Hall.

The Governor also sought guidance from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) regarding actions against non-participative SKs.

DILG Provincial Director Dr. Jesus Robel Sastrillo stated that they will call the attention of those SKs who failed to submit entries for the program. He reminded the young officials of their duties and responsibilities.

“The last provision there is to perform such as other functions as may be delegated by the Punong Barangay or other higher officials otherwise, you will be facing administrative sanctions,” Sastrillo said.

The Sugbo Vlog Challenge is now in its latest season, with winners set to receive rewards from the Capitol. In its first year, the top 10 winners received cash prizes and P1 million worth of infrastructure projects.

This year, 22 vloggers have been tapped to participate in another round of the Sugbo Vlog Challenge. – (FREEMAN)
