Maraming lokal na opisyal at lider ng Simbahan ang naging negotiator hanggang sa pakawalan ng NPA sa pamumuno ng isang Leonardo Pitao alyas Kumander Parago ang kanilang mga bihag matapos ang may 12 oras na negosasyon. Hindi naman binanggit kung nagbayad ng ransom para sa kalayaan ng mga hostage.
