47 atleta sasabak sa World Games

MANILA, Philippines — Handang-handa na ang pambansnag delegasyon na aarangkada sa 12th World Games na idaraos sa Chengdu, China mula Agosto 7 hanggang 17.

Ipaparada ng Pilipinas ang 47 atleta tampok ang ma­titikas na world-class athletes sa bansa.

Babandera sa Team Philippines sina wushu star Agatha Wong, wakeboar­ding ace Raph Trinidad at billiards world champion Rubilen Amit.

Ang World Games ay kumpetisyon para sa sports na wala sa Olympics na nagsimula noong 1981.

May dalawang ginto, limang pilak at limang tanso na ang Pilipinas sa World Games.

“We’re eyeing a significant improvement in these Chengdu World Games from the previous edition in Birmingham,” ani Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

Nasungkit ni karateka Junna Tsukii ang gintong medalya noong 2022 edis­yon sa Birmingham, Great Britain, habang napasakamay naman ni reigning world 9-ball champion Carlo Biado ang ginto sa 9-Ball event noong 2017 sa Wroclaw, Poland.

Magsisilbing flagbea­rers ng bansa sa opening ceremony sa Agosto 7 sina Wong at Trinidad.

Si Wong ay two-time world championships silver medalist at five-time Southeast Asian Games winner, habang si Trinidad ay gold winner sa IWWF Asia and Oceania Championships na ginanap sa Pampanga noong Enero.

“This is going to be the largest delegation in all World Games editions and I am praying for more medals, especially gold,” ani Tolentino.
