Ikalawang termino kay Vargas sa ABAP

MANILA, Philippines - May kumpiyansa si Ric­ky Vargas na magka­karoon ng ngipin ang Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP) para sa pangarap na kauna-unahang gintong medalya sa Olympic Games.

Muling iniluklok si Var­gas bilang pangulo ng ABAP sa General Assembly-Election kahapon sa Quezon City Sports Club.

Ang pag-upo ni Vargas hanggang 2016 ay ma­ngangahulugan na pa­tu­loy na pag-implementa sa mga nasimulang programa.

Taong 2009 nang inila­gay si Vargas, kasama ni Man­ny V. Pangilinan bilang chairman, sa ABAP at ipinasok nila ang tamang nutrition, sports psy­chologist at pagkuha ng mga  foreign coaches pa­ra magbigay ng mga ba­gong kaalaman sa ating mga boksingero.

Nakapasok si Mark An­­tho­ny Barriga sa London Olympics ngunit na­bigo nang dumanas ng ku­wes­tiyonableng pagkatalo sa se­cond  round.

“Four years was too short to prepare a boxer to become contender for a gold medal. But we felt we really need it to give it a shot,” wika ni Vargas.

Apat na taon manu­nungkulan si Pangilinan bi­lang chairman, habang ang uupong Cagayan de Oro City Mayor na si Oscar Moreno ang magiging vice chairman.

Ang dating Baguio Ci­ty Mayor at may-ari ng Uni­versity of Baguio na si Peter Rey Bautista ang ini­lagay bilang vice president, habang si JJ Vargas ng National Capital Region ang iniupo bilang trea­­surer ng ABAP.
