Pinoy grapplers nanalasa sa Singapore tilt

MANILA, Philippines — Sa panalo nina grapplers Jhonny Morte at Alvin Lobreguito sa Jagsports Wrestling Championships sa Singapore, lumalakas ang tsansa ng PH Go For Gold wrestling team sa 30th Southeast Asian Games na gaganapin dito sa Pilipinas sa susunod na taon.

Nasungkit ni Lobreguito ang gintong medalya matapos pataubin si Zhe-Xiu Liu ng Chinese Taipei sa finals  ng 57-kilogram men’s freestyle para sundan ang kanyang bronze sa Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games noong nakaraang taon.

Si Morte naman ay nagwagi sa kababayang si Jonathan Maquilan sa all-Filipino finale ng 65kg class sa parehong freestyle event.

Ang iba pang inaasa­han ng Go For Gold team ay sina Maquilan at two-time SEAG gold medalist Margarito Angana Jr.

“This is a good result for the wrestling team and I believe with continued support, they can bring us gold medals in the coming SEA Games,’’ sabi ni Go For Gold godfather Jeremy Go.

Ayon kay Go, malaki rin ang pag-asa nina silver medalists Royce Madison King Tiu sa  86kgs.

Sa kabuuan, ang Filipino grapplers ay nag-uwi ng dalawang gintong medalya, tatlong silvers at dalawang bronzes mula kay Ronil Tubog (61kg) at promi­sing junior wrestler Cadel Evance Hualda (80kg).

Bukod sa wrestling, sinusuportahan din ng Go For Gold ang ibang sports kagaya ng triathlon, sepak takraw, cycling, dragonboat at skateboarding.
