Bus firm in QC mishap faces suspension
MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to issue a 30-day preventive suspension on the franchise of a bus firm involved in a 10-vehicle smashup in Quezon City last weekend, an official said yesterday.
LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said a suspension order will be issued against Mayamy Transport following the incident along Commonwealth Avenue at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
A copy of the order, which will show the coverage of the suspension, has yet to be released as of yesterday afternoon.
Once it takes effect, the buses covered by the suspension will be subjected to roadworthiness inspection. Hearings on the incident may also be conducted.
Investigator Allan Paul Florendo of the Quezon City Police District said appropriate charges will be filed against bus driver Rolando Laurio, who said he lost control of the vehicle when he tried to avoid a motorcycle.
The bus then crossed the center island and hit a motorcycle and eight other cars and sport utility vehicles. At least 10 people were hurt in the incident.
