Mas mababang political ad rates itinutulak ni Koko

MANILA, Philippines – Nais ni Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III ngayong Huwebes na maging abot-kamay ng lahat ng nais tumakbo sa eleksyon ang pagpapalabas ng kanilang mga patalastas.

Naghain si Pimentel ng Senate Bill No. 1777 na naglalayong babaan ang bayad sa political advertisements ng 50 percent para sa telebisyon, 30 percent sa radyo at 20 percent sa print ads.

Aniya maraming kwalipikadong kandidato ang hindi makapagbayad ng kanilang mga patalastas dahil sa kamahalan nito, habang ang iilan ay nagagawa ito dahil sa kanilang mayayamang financier.

"The reason we have campaign spending limits is due to the temptation for corruption generated by excessive expenses during a campaign. Some politicians think it entitles them to 'recoup' their 'investment' using public funds," sabi ng Senate President.

"This proposal complements our campaign against political dynasties - voters won't have to put up with the same old tired faces if they have more options to choose from.”

Kabilang si Pimentel sa senatorial slate ng PDP-Laban sa darating na 2019 midterm polls.

Naipasa na naman sa Kamara ang kaparehong panukala na House Bill 6604 sa pangunguna nina Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas.

Layunin ng panukala na amyendahan ang RA 9006 o ang Fair Elections Act para maabot ng lahat ang murang affordable political advertisements.
