Syrian binigyan ng dual citizenship kahit walang dugong Pinoy

MANILA, Philippines - Mukhang malaking iskandalo ang yayanig sa Bureau of Immigration nang mabuko ang pagbibigay umano nito ng “dual-citizenship” sa isang Syrian national kahit hindi siya “natural-born” Filipino citizen.     

Nakilala ang Syrian na si Nadie Briek, a.k.a. Nadie Briek Fares, na dumating sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 noong February 15, 2013 sakay ng Qatar Airways flight QR 646.

Base sa kanyang Syrian passport No. 007399530, ipinanganak si Nadie Briek sa Al Souida’a, Syria noong January 8, 1989 sa mag-asawang Fares at Handi Briek.

Noong March 11, 2013, nag-apply si Nadie Briek sa Bureau of Immigration ng “dual citizenship”.

Sa isang “undated order” inaprubahan umano ni Comm. Ricardo David Jr. ang pagkakaloob ng dual-citizenship at pagbibigay ng certificate of Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition kay Briek.

Sinasabi sa batas na ang “dual-citizenship” ay ibinibigay lamang sa mga “natural-born Filipinos” na nawalan ng Philippine citizenship makaraang maging naturalized citizen ng ibang bansa.

Pero si Briek ay isang Syrian, at hindi “natural-born” Filipino citizen.
