Martin naniniwala pa rin sa forever, naiinggit din sa mga ikinakasal

Matagal na ring hiwalay sina Martin Nievera at Pops Fernandez pero inamin ng Concert King nang makausap namin siya sa pocket interview last Friday na hanggang ngayon pala ay may guilt pa siyang nararamdaman dahil alam niya kung gaano niya nasaktan ang dating asawa before.

“I’m so ashamed of the pain I cause through those years, no matter how happy she looks and how friendly we are today, I know that I hurt the girl and she brought me nothing but faithfulness, loyalty, two beautiful children. So my guilt is endless,” he said.

That’s why, kapag tinatanong siya kung bakit hindi niya balikan si Pops, hindi niya alam kung ano ang isasagot niya knowing na nasaktan na niya ito before at ayaw niyang masaktan pa ulit.

“One thing, I don’t want to hurt this woman again and I cannot promise that if I go back to someone like my ex-wife, Pops, I really need to be perfect.

“And how many men do you know who promised you that the second time around, I will be perfect?”

Sa tingin ba niya ay darating din ‘yung time na mawawala ang guilt feelings niya?

“I hope to God, because the women I see now, that’s their number one complain, “stop killing yourself, stop beating yourself up for all the crimes in the past”.

At siguro, ito rin daw ang dahilan kung bakit hindi pa niya magawang pumasok ulit into another marriage.

“I’m not very good at marriage,” honest niyang sagot.

But aniya, he has learned his lessons.

“Whoever marries me next, suwerte niya. Coz I’ve learned all my lessons. But I’m still very much afraid of taking that leap. Very afraid. And I think, Pops is, too,” he said.

Ang pinaka-therapy nga raw niya ngayon para ma-ease naman kahit paano ang guilt ay ang patuloy na passion niya sa kanyang craft.

“This is my therapy, singing, writing, poetry. This is something I need years of therapy,” pahayag pa ng Concert King.

Every now and then ay pabalik-balik si Martin sa ‘Pinas and abroad lalo na nga sa US, dahil paborito siyang kunin doon para mag-show sa ating mga kababayan aside from the fact na nandoon ang bunso niyang anak na si Santino na ngayon ay 8 years old na pala.

“I have an eight-year-old son there who depends on my brief time with him. We do Disneyland, he loves Disneyland, so I’m in Disneyland at least, every other month,” saad niya.

“But now I’m mostly here, because there’s a lot of work, thank God,” say pa niya.

Martin is having a Valentine concert with Regine Velasquez, Gary Valenciano and Lani Misalucha on Feb. 13 and 14 sa SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Prior to this, ay may Cebu show siya sa Feb. 5 (his birthday) and 6. Pagkatapos ng Ultimate Concert, he’ll be leaving for US on March para naman sa show niya sa M resort.

Paano niya ine-explain kay Santino kapag may mga panahong nandito siya sa Pinas?

“Just like Robin and Ram, I mean, in showbiz, you really can’t have that white picket fence, happy ending. . .”

May time rin daw na dinala niya rito ang anak pero matagal na raw ‘yun at ngayon daw ay sanay na ang bagets sa buhay-Amerika lalo pa nga’t doon ito nag-aaral.

If there’s one thing na natutunan daw niya sa lahat ng past experiences niya, ito ay huwag masyadong ilantad ang buhay sa publiko.

“And I tell these to the young stars who brag about their relationships, who sell their wedding rights to TV stations, Oh my God, save some for yourself.

“You know, when you go to the beach looking for shells and you hope to find that most precious, that’s what I’m doing now. At the age of 53 and 33 years in the business, I’m looking for shells, treasures, that I can keep and say, “this is mine”. Because I shared the ones that you know about.”

Akala lang daw siguro ng iba na unfaithful siya at kahit nag-fail siya sa kanyang marriage with Pops, truth is, he believes in family, at naniniwala rin siya sa love and forever.

Ang nakakatuwa raw ngayon, he’s one of the popular wedding singers now. Lagi raw siyang naiimbitahang kumanta sa kasal at lagi raw siyang naiinggit sa tuwing may ikinakasal dahil alam niyang sa departamentong ito siya nag-fail.
