MANILA, Philippines — Nilagdaan kahapon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., ang Republic Act 12021 o Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers Law para maging ganap na batas.

Ang ceremonial signing ng Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers ay idinaos sa Ceremonial Hall sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang.

Matatandaang, sinertipikahan ni Pangulong Marcos ang Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers bilang urgent measure noong Setyembre ng nakaraang taon.

Ipinaliwanag ng Magna Carta ang papel ng mga ahensya ng gob­yerno at stakeholders para makamit ang karaniwang layunin para igarantiya ang “accountability, efficiency, at clarity” para sa proteksyon ng mga seafarers. Mapoproteksyunan din nito ang seafa­rers mula sa mapanganib na aksyon at banta sa kanilang kabuhayan gaya ng “ambulance chasing.”

Bibigyan din ng batas ang Filipino seafarers ng karapatan sa “safe passage at safe travel, consultation, free legal representation, agarang medical attention, access sa communication, record of employment o certificate of employment, patas na pagtrato sa event ng maritime accident”.
