Sonsona hangad ang world championship

MANILA, Philippines - Muling ibabangon ni da­ting world super flyweight champion “Marve­lous” Marvin Sonsona ang kanyang boxing career sa pamamagitan ng pagsagu­pa kay Akifumi Shimoda ng Japan sa kanilang pag­haharap kagabi sa Cotai Arena ng Ve­netian Resort Hotel & Casino sa Macau.

Pag-aaga­wan nina Son­­sona at Shimoda, ang da­­ting World Boxing Association (WBA) super ban­tam­weight titlist, ang ba­kanteng World Boxing Or­ganization (WBO) In­ter­national fea­therweight title.

Nangako ang tubong Ge­neral Santos City na si Son­sona na ibibigay niya ang lahat ng kanyang ma­kakaya para talunin si Shi­moda.

Kung mananalo si Son­­­sona kay Shimoda ay mapapasama siya sa un­dercard ng title fight ni­na Nonito ‘The Filipi­no Flash’ Donaire, Jr. at WBA/IBO ruler Simpiwe Vet­yeka sa Mayo 31 sa Ma­cau.

“This one, and the next one and then the title,” sabi ni  matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz.

Kasalukuyang ibina­ban­­dera ni Sonsona ang kanyang 17-1-1 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 14 knockouts kum­para sa  28-3-2 (12 KOs) card ni Shi­moda.

Ang 23-anyos na si Sonsona ay naging WBO super flyweight king sa edad na 19-anyos noong Setyembre 4, 2009 matapos niyang agawan ng ko­rona si Puerto Rican Jo­se Lopez sa Ontario, Ca­nada.

Ang laban nina Sonsona at Shimoda ay nasa un­dercard ng banggaan nina Chinese two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming na sinasa­nay ni Freddie Roach at Yok­thong Kokietgym ng Thailand.
