MANILA, Philippines - Kagaya ng dapat mang­yari, tinanggap na ka­hapon ng PBA Board of Governors ang pagpasok ng Global Port Batang Pier ni Mikee Romero sa professional league matapos ang kanilang emergency meeting.

Inaprubahan ng PBA Board ang pagbili ng Sultan 900 Capital Inc. sa prangkisa ng Powerade Tigers sa halagang P100 milyon bukod pa sa P10 milyon na franchise fee.

“Upon careful evaluation, the Board has unanimously, warmly and unitedly accep­ted the application of Sultan 900 as the newest member of the PBA via the acquisition of the franchise held by Coca-Cola,” sabi ni PBA Commissioner Chito Salud.

Ang Global Port, pagmamay-ari ng Sultan 900 Capital Inc., ang pang-27 prangkisang sumali sa liga mula noong 1975.

Ang Batang Pier ni Ro­mero ang siyang makaka­kuha sa mga kontrata nina Gary David, JVee Casio, Sean Anthony, Rabeh Al-Hussaini at iba pang Tigers.

“When the board members let me into the meeting, I said to myself, finally, my dream has come true and finally, I’m a bonafide member of the PBA board,” sabi ng 41-anyos na si Romero. “Matagal ko nang hinihintay ito dahil my childhood dream was to be a PBA player. But now, I’m an owner of a team.”

Bago umakyat sa PBA ay anim na sunod na korona sa PBL ang nakamit ng Harbour Centre ni Romero at isang titulo naman ng Philippine Patriots sa Asian Basketball League.

Si Glenn Capacio, na­ging head coach ng Patriots sa nakaraang ABL season, ang tatayong interim head coach ng Batang Pier para sa darating na 38th season ng PBA sa Setyembre.

“Rain or Shine took six years to win a PBA title. If we can achieve that in half that time, it will be a big achievement for me,” ani Romero sa nakaraang paghahari ng Elasto Painters sa 2012 PBA Governors Cup.
