Si Alkhaldi naman ang susubok ngayon

LONDON--Halos inamin na rin ni Jasmine Alkhaldi na malabo ang kanyang tsansang makalusot sa lalanguyan niyang isa sa pitong heats sa women’s 100-meter freestyle ngayong umaga sa 30th Olympic Games.

“It’s soooooo tough,’’ ani Alkhaldi na tinawanan nina swimmer Jessie Lacuna, coach Pinky Brosas, Team PH chief of mission Manny Lopez at administrative officer Arsenic Lacson.

Makakasabayan ni Alkhaldi sa third heat sina Mylene Ong ng Singapore, Nastja Govejsek ng Slovenia, Ester Dara ng Hungary, Liliana Lopez ng Mexico, Karen Torres ng Bolivia at Cielia Tini ng Mauritius.

“I just told her to go for her personal best and have fun,’’ sabi naman ni Brosas sa 19-anyos na Pinay swimmer. ‘’The depth of the field is just overwhelming.’’

Ang kanyang personal best sa event ay 56.92 segundo na mas malayo kesa sa 53.12 na ipinoste ni Britta Steffen ng Germany para sa gold medal sa 2008 Beijing Games sa China.

Magbabalik si Steffen sa paglangoy sa sixth heat kung saan apat pang swimmers ang may qualifying time na 53.05 segundo o mas maganda pa ang kalahok.

Bukod kay Steffen, mapapanood rin si Ranomi Kromowidjojo ng Netherlands na may personal best na 52.75 segundo na kanyang itinala noong Abril.
