So 3rd place sa World Open Chess Championships

MANILA, Philippines - Iniuwi ni Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So ang 3rd overall sa 40th Annual World Open Chess Championship na ginanap sa Sheraton City Center Hotel sa Philadelphia nitong Hulyo 2 hanggang 8.

Tumapos si So, tubong Bacoor, Cavite-ng 6.5 points na kanyang kinuha mula sa apat na panalo, limang draws sa siyam na sulungan na nagbigay sa kanya ng ikat­­­long pagtatapos matapos ang superior tie break kontra kina GMs Giorgi Kacheishvili ng Georgia, Aleksander Lenderman, Ale­xander Evdokimov, Ray Robson, Yuri Shulman at Mark Tyler Arnold ng USA.

Nadiskaril ang tsansa ni So na ma­sung­kit ang kampeonato nang mauwi lamang sa tabla ang pakikipagpigaan niya ng utak kay Shulman sa final round.

Si GM Ivan Sokolov ng Netherlands ang siyang tinanghal na kampeon maka­raang igupo sa tie break match si GM Ale­xan­der Shabalov ng Amerika na kap­wa tumapos ng pitong puntos.

Ang paglahok at biyaheng ito ni So ay suportado nina National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) President/ Chairman Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. at Secretary-General Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino Jr.
