Lopez pinaghandaan ang Thai boxer

MANILA, Philippines - Naghahanda na si WBC No. 1 super­flyweight contender Silvester Lopez ng Zamboanga Sibugay para sa kanyang world title shot sa pagsagupa kay Chatpayak Sitnarits ng Thailand bukas ng gabi.

Maglalaban sina Lopez at Sitnarits sa isang 10-round bout mula sa isang eight-fight card na inihahandog ni Gabriel (Bebot) Elorde katuwang si Gov. Imee Marcos sa Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena sa Laoag City.

“This is a tune-up bout for Silver but we’re not taking Chatpayak lightly,” sabi ni Elorde. “I’m attending the WBC conven­tion in Las Vegas next week and I’ll lobby for the WBC champion (Suriyan Sor Rung­visai) to defend the title next against Lopez as the mandatory challenger. Lopez will treat Chatpayak like Suriyan since they’re both Thais.”

Ang 24-anyos na si Lopez ay nagmula sa isang eighth round stoppage kay No. 2 contender Oscar Ibarra para angkinin ang WBC Silver title noong Setyembre sa Queretaro, Mexico.

Nabasura lamang ang pagpigil ni Me­xican promoter Herminaldo Kuchle na isang non-title fight ang panalo ni Lopez laban kay Ibarra nang katigan si Elorde ni WBC president Jose Sulaiman.

Kung mananalo si Lopez kay Sitnarits ay maaari niyang hamunin si WBC champion Tomas Rojas.
