National Open papadyak na uli
MANILA, Philippines - Matapos ang 25 taon na pagkawala sa eksena, magbabalik ang National Open Cycling Championships sa Disyembre 6-13 sa likod ng Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines (ICFP).
Ito ang inihayag ni ICFP president Dr. Philip Ella Juico kamakalawa ng gabi sa harap ng ICFP board, mga cyclists at supporters sa Rembrandt Hotel.
“The National Open will be a cyclists’ delight because it will cater to all of their specialties--from road to velodrome, mountain-bike and cross-country racing. I talked to the cyclists and they are all very excited, saying it’s about time that a tournament as prestigious as this one, is revived,” ani Juico, dating chairman ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
“This is just the start of a busy season for our cyclists, who have been yearning for a perfect venue to get their competitive juices flowing. Hindi na sila mababakante dahil marami tayong nakahandang proyekto para sa kanila, umpisa pa lang itong National Open,” dagdag pa ni Juico.
Huling idinaos ang National Open noong 1985 sa Cagayan de Oro sa ilalim ni dating cycling president Gov. Francisco Almeda.
Sa kanyang liderato, sinabi ni Juico na ang open bikefest ay mas magiging malaki at susuportahan ng Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) at PSC.
Ang Amoranto Velodrome sa Quezon City ang siyang magiging venue para sa track competitions, habang ang road races ay gagawin sa Tanay, Rizal.
Ang Montalban, Rizal ang paggaganapan ng MTB Event. Ang mga events sa road race ay ang 40-km individual time trials para sa men at women’s at ang 160-km Open Road Race para sa men, samantalang ang track events ay may 1,600 meters massed start, 4,800 meters massed start, 4-km individual at team pursuit, 30-km Points Race at the 1-km ITT.
