Ang tinapos ng RP shooters: 3 silvers, 1 Bronze

BANGKOK — Sadyang napakahirap na target ang gold medal para sa Philippine shooting team.

Sumama ang pagtatapos ng men’s trap shooters matapos magmintis sa gold sa team at individual plays dahilan ng pagkabokya ng Team Philippines sa gintong medalya sa 24th SEA Games shooting competitions.

Dahil sa pressure, nagsumite lamang sina Paul Brian Rosario, Patricio Bernardo at Gabriel Tong ng 127 sa final 50 targets para magkasya lamang sa silver medal sa likod ng Thais sa team contest.

Hindi nasustine ng RP Trio ang kanilang 143 aggregate sa unang dala-wang rounds at nagsumite lamang ng 334 birds, ikawalo sa likod ng 342 ng Thai team na binubuo nina Hatchaichukiat Jira-nunt, Phasee Pitipoon at Varadhampinich Krisada.

Umusad si Rosario, double-gold medallist sa 2005 Manila SEA Games sa six man individual final bilang third best shooter sa qualifying round sa kanyang 113, ngunit su-malto sa medal play, at nagtapos lamang bilang fifth sa kanyang 131.

Napasabak naman si Bernardo, individual skeet champion noong 1999 Brunei SEAG, sa four-man shootoff  sa last three slots sa final. Nasibak ang 56-gulang na si Bernardo, sa shootoff.

Nakopo ni Hatchaichukiat ang individual gold sa kanyang 138 points at napanatili ng Thais ang overall championship sa shooting competition sa naaning 14 gold medals.

Uuwi ang RP shooters na may tatlong silvers at isang bronze lamang.

“The Thais benefited from their home court advantage. They’re so familiar with the layout and the wind direction,” ani RP skeet team manager Pol Rosario.
