May misyon ang La Salle at Santo Tomas

Habang hangad ng De La Salle University na maipagtanggol ang kanilang korona, puntirya naman ng University of Sto. Tomas ang kanilang ikalawang sunod na titulo sa paghataw ng 2nd Conference ng Shakey’s V-League Women’s Volleyball Tournament sa Oktubre 14 sa The Arena sa San Juan.

“Actually, we’re not only preparing for the Shakey’s V-League but also for the coming 70th UAAP volleyball tournament on December,” wika kahapon ni head coach August Santamaria sa kanyang Tigresses. “But we can assure you that we will definitely go for our second consecutive championship.”

Sa nakaraang 1st Conference, winalis ng UST ang San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 2-0, sa kanilang best-of-three championship series.

Sa hangaring muling makapasok sa finals sa pangatlong dikit na pagkakataon, muling hihikayatin ng Lady Stags na makuha ang serbisyo ni Thai spiker Jaroensri Bualee, ayon kay mentor Roger Gorayeb.

“Medyo nasa 70 percent na ‘yung pagpayag niya na lumaro ulit sa San Sebastian. Kung makukuha ulit namin siya, sigurado nang may chance kami for the Final Four bago kami mag-isip ng finals,” ani Gorayeb.

Si Bualee ang tinanghal na Most Valuable Player ng 1st Conference bukod pa sa pagiging Best Scorer.

Kagaya ng Tigresses, wala ring Thai reinforcement na ipaparada ang mga Lady Archers ni coach Ramil de Jesus para sa 2nd Conference na pinagreynahan ng Taftbased belles noong 2004.

“We still have the same line-up pero hindi na kami kumuha ng Thai import,” wika ni De Jesus sa La Salle, tinalo ng Lyceum of the Philippines para sa third place trophy. “We consider all the teams as contenders, kaya wala kaming titingnan na mahinang teams.” (Rcadayona)
