MANILA, Philippines — Saludo si Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone sa ipinamalas ni Kai Sotto sa dalawang panalo ng kanyang tropa sa FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers sa Mall of Asia Arena sa Pasay City.

Naglaro ang Gilas nang wala si naturalized player Justin Brownlee.

Ngunit hindi ito naging problema dahil nariyan si Sotto na tunay na naasahan ng Gilas.

“This guy to my left (Kai Sotto, (he’s the difference-maker. Without him joining us, I don’t think we get these two games. I don’t think we’ll even get close,” ani Cone.

Pinataob ng Gilas ang Jordan noong Biyernes sa bendisyon ng 82-81 overtime win kasunod ang 68-56 panalo kontra sa Iran noong Linggo.

Sa dalawang laro, nagtala si Sotto ng averages na 15.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists at 1.0 block para pamunuan ang Gilas na umangat sa 4-4 sa Group E.

Laglag naman sa parehong 5-3 marka ang Jordan at Iran.

Naglaro na parang import si Sotto kaya’t hindi naramdaman ang pagkawala ni Brownlee.

“Especially without Justin Brownlee, we had our import in this guy. This guy was our import. He played certainly like an import, so thank you, Kai, for coming and doing the work you did,” ani Cone.

Inihalintulad pa ni Cone si Sotto kay Iranian star Hammed Haddadi na makailang ulit na tinulungan ang Iran sa kampeonato sa Asian Championships.

“You remember Haddadi? When they had Haddadi, they were just dominating Asia,” ani Cone.

 Kaya naman hindi maitatanggi na malaki ang papel ni Sotto sa bawat kampanya ng Gilas.
