6-man RP boxing team puntang China

Aalis sa Miyerkules ang anim kataong Philippine boxing team para lumahok sa prestihiyosong 3rd Xingiang International Boxing tournament sa western city ng Wurumugi.

Inaasahan ni Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines president Manny Lopez, na hahatak ng mga pangunahing boxers mula sa 20 bansa, na isa sa magiging basehan ng bansa sa pagbuo ng lineup para sa nalalapit na 24th Southeast Asian Games sa Thailand.

Ang koponan ay babanderahan ni Sydney Olympic veteran welterweight Larry Semillano na nakatakda  sa Agosto 5 hanggang 12 ay inorganisa ng Chinese Boxing Association.

Makakasama ni Semillano ang magkapatid na Froilan (light-flyweight) at Rey Saludar (flyweight), Orlando Tacuyan Jr. (featherweight), Junel Cantancio (bantamweight) at bagong tuklas na Filipino-American na si Herman Banks Taylor (light-welterweight).

Taylor is a new member of the national training pool. The Xinjiang event will be a test on whether he has the tools to make it to the SEA Games this year. He is also determined to represent the country in the Beijing Olympics,” wika ni Lopez.

Ayon kay ABAP secretary-general Roger Fortaleza, si Taylor, dating kickboxing champion, ay sumama sa isa sa training session ng national pool noong nakaraang taon at na-impress ang coaching staff sa kanyang kakayahan.
