Fiesta sa opening ng MY Games

Kantahan, sayawan at fiesta na may ispiritu ng athletic competition ang pupuno sa makasaysayang Rizal Memorial Sports Complex sa opening ceremonies ng 3rd Manila Youth Games sa Linggo.

Magkakaroon ng cheering competition, giant kite flying competition, acrobatic show tampok ang mga dating street children at fire works display ang magaganap sa inaugurals ng Palaro ng ‘Big City’ na inaasahang magiging masaya at makulay na sports gathering sa taong ito.

Ayon kay Arnold ‘Ali’ Atienza, chairman ng nag-organisang Manila Sports Council (MASCO), tatlong oras tatagal ang opening ceremonies na katatampukan ng awarding ng plaque of appreciation at recognition sa ‘sports great’ ng Manila.

"We expect to open the 3rd MYG with a bang with this festive opening ceremonies and with the intention that all week long, competitions will be as exciting and heated among the kids," wika ng anak ni Manila Mayor Lito Atienza kahapon bilang panauhin sa PSA Forum sa Manila Pavilion. Inihayag din ni Atienza na ang 2004 edition ng Palarong ito na susuportahan ng Philippine Sports Commission, Cafe Lupe, Harrison Plaza at PAGCOR, ay magsisilbing qualifying event sa pagpili ng deserving athletes na bubuo sa RP delegation na ipapadala sa 2004 International Children’s Games sa Cleveland, Ohio na nakatakda sa July 29-August 2.

Kabilang sa mga pararangalan bilang ‘Manila’s sports greats’ ay ang Olympic silver medalists na si Anthony Villanueva ng boxing at 1991 Southeast Asian Games ‘Best Male Athlete’ awardee na si Eric Buhain ng swimming na ngayon ay chairman na ng Philippine Sports Commission. Paparangalan din sina 4-time Olympian Enrique Beech ng shooting at football at Samboy Lim at Jerry Codiñera ng basketball.

Tinatayang 8,000 kabataan na may edad na 15-gulang pababa mula sa 897 barangays at 130 public at private schools ng Manila ang makikibahagi sa event na ito.
