Kahit napakainit ng panahon, naging makulay ang opening rites ng ikalawang edisyon ng Manila Youth Games sa makasaysayang Rizal Memorial Track Stadium kahapon.
May tinatayang 14,000 katao na kinabibilangan ng mga partisipanteng kabataan na may edad na 15-anyos at pababa, mga pangunahing opisyal ng bansa, City hall luminaries at ang mga kinatawan ng 897 barangays at 130 public at private schools sa Manila ang pumuno ng stadium kahapon.
Panauhing pandangal si Philippine Sports Commission chairman Eric Buhain na siyang ring keynote speaker.
"Besides youth, Manila also put emphasis on the role of sports in nation building that could potentially provide initial step to producing future sports heroes," pahayag ni Buhain.
