Dagul appeals to former 'Goin' Bulilit' co-stars for acting projects
MANILA, Philippines — Veteran comedian Dagul, whose real name is Romeo "Romy" Pastrana, is appealing to his former "Goin' Bulilit" co-stars for acting opportunities as he continues to recover from health issues and support his family.
In an interview with Susan Enriquez's "Kay Susan Tayo! Vlogs," the 66-year-old comedian looked back on his years with the long-running children's gag show, where he worked with then-young stars who are now among the biggest names in Philippine entertainment, including Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, Belle Mariano, and Kiray Celis.
Dagul said he is proud of everything his former co-stars have achieved and hopes they can help him return to acting.
“Sa ‘Goin’ Bulilit,’ alam ko naman na marami sa inyo ang sumikat. Sana mapansin niyo ako kung may maitutulong man kayong project. Sinasabi ko na, kailangan ko ang tulong ninyo. Kahit palamuti lang, kahit anong role, tatanggapin ko para sa pamilya ko,” he said.
The comedian shared that he is willing to accept any role if it means earning a living for his family.
Dagul also gave an update on his health, saying his condition has improved compared to last year, when he was frequently hospitalized.
“Okay na ang health, hindi tulad noong last year na lagi akong nasa hospital. Parang paglabas ko, after one week, babalik na naman ako sa ospital. Ang sakit ko kasi pulmo, sleep apnea, at mino-monitor din ang kidneys ko,” he said.
He revealed that he continues to deal with chronic knee pain and cataracts in his left eye. However, doctors have yet to clear him for eye surgery because they are still monitoring his heart condition. The medical tests he needs have also added to his financial burden.
Dagul thanked friends who have extended financial help over the years, including Benjie Paras, Long Mejia, and former senator Manny Pacquiao, but admitted that his ongoing medical expenses remain difficult to manage.
After "Goin' Bulilit" ended its 14-year run in 2019, Dagul's television appearances became less frequent. In 2022, he revealed that he had been working at the barangay hall in Montalban, Rizal, as head of the command center for local officials.
Dagul first rose to fame through GMA's "Kool Ka Lang" before becoming one of the familiar faces of "Goin' Bulilit," where he entertained viewers for more than a decade.
