270 inmates get free legal aid

MANILA, Philippines — Free legal assistance has been provided to 270 inmates of the New Bilibid Prison, according to the Department of Justice Action Center (DOJAC).
The inmates, including seniors and persons with disabilities and terminal illnesses, benefited from the agency’s “Katarungan Caravan.”
“The outreach program is not just a service. It is a system of care and humanity that highlights our duty to our fellow citizens,” DOJ Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez said.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has lauded the initiative and commended volunteers.
“The active participation of volunteer lawyers and law students showcases our collective drive for social justice and reinforces the importance of community involvement in legal advocacy,” Remulla said.
The DOJAC partnered with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines’ Quezon City and Manila chapters as well as the San Sebastian College of Law, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Philippine Law School.
