EDITORIAL — Public roads are not a stage for personal antics

Traffic congestion is a persistent issue in Consolacion, Cebu, but the recent antics of a vlogger have brought this problem to a new low. Dressed as a snail, the vlogger deliberately crawled along the highway, causing a significant disruption to the flow of vehicles. While the stunt may have been intended as harmless entertainment, its consequences were far from amusing.

The incident highlights a growing concern about the misuse of public spaces for social media content. By obstructing traffic, the vlogger not only inconvenienced motorists but also posed a safety risk. Emergency vehicles, commuters, and businesses relying on timely deliveries were all affected by this irresponsible act.

Authorities must take decisive action to address such behavior. The Highway Patrol Group in Central Visayas has already expressed its intent to locate the individual and hold him accountable. But it should not stop there. Clear guidelines and penalties must be established to deter similar actions in the future.

Public roads are not a stage for personal antics. They are shared spaces that require mutual respect and responsibility. While creativity and humor have their place, they should never come at the expense of public safety and convenience. It is high time for authorities to set an example and ensure that such disruptions are not repeated.

The vlogger's actions may have garnered online attention, but they have also sparked a necessary conversation about accountability in the digital age. Let this serve as a reminder that with great influence comes great responsibility.
