Disaster resilience and Yes Pinoy Foundation

Nowadays we often talk about preparing ourselves for disasters that come along our way, considering the lessons we have learned from the experiences of Yolanda.

It has come to a time where we are finally realizing the importance of the education behind such an advocacy and it is quite imperative to pursue such especially in our schools. But what exactly is disaster resilience education?

Disaster resilience education focuses on the learning about natural hazards, risk in the local environment and actions to protect communities before, during and after an emergency or disaster.

For ten years now I have been fortunate to work with Yes Pinoy Foundation in the hopes of fully educating our youth on disaster preparedness. Dingdong Dantes who steers this mission being at the forefront of this foundation continues to go around our schools to participate and work together on establishing equipped communities especially in the youth sector.

One of the very first missions we had together was helping our students in Tomas Morató Elementary School understand the value of health and how this plays an important role in achieving quality education.

As Yes Pinoy Foundation celebrates its tenth year, a campaign called I Am Super is further asserting its efforts to build highly resilient communities by building on the generosity and support of individuals and organizations who believe in the need to empower those who have been affected, who are being affected, and who will be affected by natural and man-made catastrophe.

Through the right knowledge and skill, “I Am Super” is aimed to equip our nation and transform the lives of the most vulnerable. The Adopt a School, Adopt a Community and One For One programs have created youth leaders, service oriented and resilient Filipinos which have grown across the nation.

With so much happening to our brothers and sisters who have little or no access to proper disaster response, so many of them continue to suffer and it is about time we strengthen civic society further by helping one another become fully equipped in times of crisis, most especially for the next generation.

Man-made hazards like the Marawi crisis in Mindanao did not only displace 400,000 people but also robbed them of their rights and safety.

Again, it is imperative that we do our parts to help the most vulnerable. Congratulations Yes Pinoy Foundation on your tenth year of giving back to communities in the hopes of one day making our country a Super Nation.
