A matter of national defense
Our country has spent a significant amount of time on issues pertaining to national defense. We have been tossing back and forth on negotiations with the objective of peace and national security.
In the midst of it all, there seems to be a call or perhaps a slight hint as to how much more our country can further pursue actions toward national security, more so, fight terrorism.
Let’s take a look at Israel for example … one of, if not, my favorite country in terms of defense and combat.
Mossad, a Hebrew word pertaining to the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations is the national intelligence agency of Israel which was formed in 1949, upon the recommendation of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion to Reuven Shiloah (director of the Mossad). It was to be the central body that would both coordinate and improve the partnership between the existing security services being the army’s intelligence department and the foreign office’s political department.
In March therefore of 1951, the Mossad was recognized and made part of the prime minister’s office reporting directly to the prime minister. Responsible for covert operations and counter terrorism, the Mossad is said to be exempt from the basic laws of Israel. The counter terrorist unit of the Mossad known as the kidon, is known to be one of the most capable and lethal special operations units ever known to man.
Just like other foreign intelligence agencies, Mossad also collaborates with other identical countries. It also has its own research and technology department.
Apart from the Kidon, Mossad also has other counter terrorist units such as the Metsada which runs small units of combatants, and Venture Capital which is involved in the development of new cyber technologies.
Last but certainly not least, Mossad also has Operation Harpoon which is involved in eradicating terrorist money networks.
Mossad goes by the motto “Where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” In terms of national security therefore, wouldn’t it be beneficial for us as a nation to seek a similar council in order to defend our motherland?
In my own opinion, I very much would like to be a part of such a council that would collaborate and put our best interests first. Whether this be debatable or not, the point is national security comes with both potential and risk but what matters most in the end is how we are able to defend our nation through combined special forces in the service of our motherland.
