Time for Pres. Aquino to quit!

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

If our country is in deep trouble today, it is only because too many Filipino voters trusted Pres. Benigno Aquino III to lead and move this country forward. Only a few of us strongly believed that when Pres. Aquino was a congressman and then a senator, he was a non-performer. He just got elected because of his famous parents, notably the late Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. and mother Tita Cory Aquino who later became president of the Philippines.

Pres. Aquino was not even in the running for the 2010 presidential elections until his mother the late Pres. Cory Aquino died of cancer just a few months before the elections… and soon, even front running presidentiables like DILF Sec. Manuel "Mar" Roxas stepped down to run as his vice president. During that presidential race in December 2009, the Cebu Business Club brought all the presidentiables to a forum at the Cebu International Convention Center and there we saw firsthand the people we were about to elect into office.

When it came to the question "If you are elected President, what can you do for Cebu?" The answer of PNoy was… "My government will be a government of consultation, I will consult the Cebuanos on what they need and what they want before I do something for Cebu." Nearly five years into his term, Pres. Aquino hasn't given Cebu any infrastructure projects. If he is incompetent as a president he has certainly shown a higher form of incompetence as commander-in-chief, which is why 44 elite Special Action Force oldiers died uselessly in a botched covert mission.

Now, no less than former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos  has openly stated that Aquino as commander-in-chief "Broke the chain of command and he should accept responsibility for that ill-fated covert operation." This is a former president and a former general of the Armed Forces of the Philippines  who is telling the Filipino people that the president is responsible for what happened to the SAF soldiers.

Now calls for PNoy's resignation have been echoed from Archbishop Ramon Arguelles and Bishop Romulo dela Cruz of Zamboanga City and many more angry Filipinos are demanding the president's resignation. Supposedly a fact-finding board will be created to get into the bottom of this mess. But how do we know that the results of those investigations would not be biased? We already saw that list… and yes it's going to be a whitewash!

If you recall, a few days after this incident happened, Pres. Aquino tasked the Department of Justice Sec. Leila de Lima to investigate this incident. Come now… will Sec. de Lima also investigate the president when she gets to the point when fingers point to the president? I don't think so! I cannot even trust Sen. TG Guingona's proposal for Congress to investigate this case simply because they are political allies.

One big question that remains unanswered came from no less than Philippine National Police officer-in-charge Leonardo Espina who asked, "Why were the commandos in the assault team and blocking force wiped out and why did the teams on standby not respond to augment the forces?" These are the questions we'd like to pose to suspended PNP chief Alan Purisima, who is nowhere to be found. People say that he is in Saipan attending a Masonic conference. This shows how irresponsible Mr. Purisima is for running away when the nation wants to know the truth.

But what really is the truth here? We have a president who loves to play video games and since he loves to go combat shooting with his gun, he must also like playing war games on his TV screen. But remember in a video game, you can get shot and die a hundred times and all you need to do is reset your game. But in the real world… when you get shot… you die!

Now with this latest crisis, it seems that Pres. Aquino's back is against the wall. He is only defended by Senate Pres. Franklin Drilon and his allies in the Liberal Party  but the whole nation is angry with him. Naturally his minions in Malacañang Palace are saying that he is not liable, but that's about it because we can prove his culpability.

Now the Aquino Regime has literally grounded to a halt because of this crisis. The Philippine Daily Inquirer yesterday came up with a front page news that said, "COA, Comelec, CSC, DOH, PNP Still Headless: PNoy no hurry to fill jobs." Now a good manager would make sure that his ship of state would run smoothly. But even this president cannot resolve. He is better off quitting as president while the quitting is good. Did you see that photograph of Pres. Aquino with former Pres. Fidel Ramos, Sec. Ochoa, and DILG Sec. Mar Roxas during the necrological services? Everyone had a somber, solemn face… yet Pres. Aquino was laughing. Time to quit, Pres. Aquino!
