Fruit bearing trees street names in Banawa, Cebu City
In Banawa Hills (within Barangay Guadalupe) formerly named as Gonzales Subdivision streets are named after fruit bearing trees. The street names are not just unofficial names, they were named by virtue of an ordinance.
The Cebu City council on June 3, 1968 on motion of Councilor Bienvenido B. Tudtud enacted City Ordinance No. 620 naming formerly unnamed streets in Banawa Hills, Guadalupe, Cebu City. There were ten (10) streets given official names, these are:
1. Lomboy Street - it is the street from M. Velez Street (north to the end in the south.
2. Manga Street - crossing 5th corner of Lomboy Street from Sambag Street (East) to end in the West.
3. Sambag Street- from Eastern end of Manga Street (North) to the end at the South.
4. Kaimito Street- 1st road crossing Lomboy Street.
5. Tambis Street- 2nd corner of Lomboy Street to the end at the East.
6. Avocado Street- 3rd corner of Lomboy Street to the end at the east.
7. Nangka Street- 4th corner of Lomboy Street to the end at the East.
8. Chico Street- from 2nd corner of Manga Street to the end at the South.
9. Balingbing Street- from Chico Street in the East crossing Lomboy Street (6th corner) to the end at the East.
10. Santol Street- from Tambis Street at the South to the end in the North.
It was approved during the term of Mayor Eulogio E. Borres, the members of the council were Florencio S. Urot as presiding officer, Raymundo A. Crystal as President Pro-Tempore, Ronald R. Duterte as Floor Leader, as Members: Bienvenido B. Tudtud, Arturo L. Abellana, Caridad A. Trocino, Jesus S. Gabuya, Jose V. Arias and Jose L. Rodriguez.
The street names have no historical or cultural relevance to the city or its residents and instead of changing/renaming street names named after persons or events, these street names are perfect candidates to be renamed.
