Tikoy

THE EAR - The Freeman

TIKOY. Tikoy, a traditional Chinese food, is a popular giveaway during the Chinese New Year because it symbolizes, they say, family togertherness and unseparable friendship. But not to the family of Mario (not his real name). Tikoy almost caused a family breakup.

SUPERSTITION. Mario was gifted with a box of tikoy by a Chinese friend. He brought it home believing his wife would be happy to have it. But no. She did not touch it and told her husband to throw it away. She said according to her religion her husband had committed a sin for believing in superstition.
