Our silence on the RH Law wounds our souls!
The Philippine Daily Inquirer last Wednesday came up with an inside page story that was bannered "Palace admits poor left out of strong economy." This report in my book should have been a huge front page story and it only proves that the PDI still supports the Aquino Presidency despite its huge, many shortcomings. If you asked why this story was not frontpage material, the answer is because this is the clearest proof of the failure of the Aquino Presidency whose slogan is, "Walang Mahirap kung walang Corrupt!"
Today the poor Filipinos are entertained by that media circus in the Senate, where people are left wondering as to who is telling the truth about the accusations that Sen. Bong Revilla threw to no less than Pres. PNoy Aquino. While all this is happening, the poor remain poor under the Aquino Presidency. I rest my case!

Talking about slogans, one of the slogans used during the Million Man March of the late Martin Luther King was "No Justice, No Peace!" That was decades ago in the mid 1960's. Today, there is another Million Man March dubbed March for Life in Washington, D.C. where Pro-Lifers brave the winter cold to send a message across America to protect human life. There's also March for Life in Europe as the world realizes that the abortion of defenseless babies is a human rights violation.
In support and solidarity with the March for Life, Pope Francis tweeted this message, "I join the March for Life in Washington with my prayers. May God help us respect all life, especially the most vulnerable." Earlier in the week, Pope Francis during his so-called "State of the World" yearly address to diplomats accredited to the Vatican said, "It is horrific even to think that there are children, victims of abortion, who will never see the light of day." This was Pope Francis' open declaration that abortion is evil.
The annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. coincides with the 41st anniversary of the one of the turning points in American legal history called Roe vs. Wade, that infamous Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in America. Recent Gallup polls show that the majority of Americans today are now openly declaring themselves as Pro-Life.
In the Philippines, because of our Catholic culture, the majority of Filipinos are Pro-Lifers. This is why many of us were saddened by Pres. Benigno "PNoy" Aquino III who during the presidential campaign already declared that he would support the Reproductive Health Bill. Many priest friends of mine and nuns supported the presidential bid of Pres. PNoy Aquino because they associated him with his mother Tita Cory Aquino.
When I asked them what they would do if PNoy becomes president and still pursues the RH Bill? Many of them told me that they would be in a better position to change his mind. Well folks, shame on those priests and nuns who supported PNoy for he did not only shame the Catholic Clergy early in his term using the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office as his attack dog, they even tried to discredit many bishops who were given SUV's, calling them "Pajero Bishops" then approved the RH Bill!
Then secretly on Dec. 8, 2012 Pres. PNoy signed the RH Bill into Law. I say secretly because it was announced to the public two weeks later. But notice the date, it was signed on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. In my book, it was Satan's ultimate slap to the Blessed Virgin Mary that the president signed this death bill into law on her Feast Day. Thankfully the RH Law is still languishing in the Supreme Court awaiting its fate. Perhaps, the Justices want to use it as a bargain chip for their own sinister purposes.
But we are seeing changes in this world today. Even China, which declared its infamous One Child Policy and aborted billions of babies suddenly, had a change of heart and last month, it has now withdrawn this policy because they saw the ill-effects it had on the Chinese people. Japan and Singapore are now encouraging its people to have more children. In Sweden, when a woman gets pregnant, she can stop working for a year and still be paid through the Swedish government.
We started this piece talking about Martin Luther King; allow me to end it by reprinting one of his most famous quotes, "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way." Indeed, Catholics who believe that abortion is murder that contraceptives are abortifacient should not remain silent lest they fall into the sin of omission, which is just as bad as the sin of commission. Let us pray that the SC would declare the RH Law unconstitutional.
