Opinion

A column to read

READER'S VIEWS - The Freeman

This is a long overdue note for such a very nice and informative column that has appeared in The Freeman for quite some time now. I think the first time it saw print was in the June 12, 2013 issue (about Julian A. Alcantara Street). And I'm referring to Atty. Clarence Paul Oaminal's CEBUPEDIA.

For a memory man like me who loves and treasures the things of the glorious past, history, flashbacks and such, this is indeed my kind of reading material. It never fails to put a smile on my face and be thankful each time I read such a column. I get a certain kind of high to know how such streets were named after so-and-so, be informed about the history of how such street came into being or what has become of such old street, its new name now, etc. I never fail to read this column as it brings back a lot of beautiful memories about the old Cebu, the so-called "ang Cebu sa karaang panahon."

So to Atty. Oaminal goes my sincere kudos and thanks for a job very well done. Keep it up, Sir. Keep writing.

On amending Cabotage Law

Statement of Chester Cokaliong to Sen. Bam Aquino's plan to amend the Cabotage Law:

Cokaliong Shipping does not see it as a threat to the local shipping business. Instead I see it as a way of improving the shipping industry since it would foster competition and would encourage improvement in the domestic shipping services.

If the amendment will be passed into law, the domestic shipping services would be compelled to shape up or be left out in the competitive shipping industry.
