"There is power and glory in giving up"
To Gov. Gwen Garcia
October is no longer a “bridge too far” for our public officials to file their certificate of candidacy. But to run or not to run in the May 13 elections is the question for which many candidates look to the political survey in the hope of finding the answer and realistic of the political strength of the candidates.
Some veteran word pushers, however, are wary of praising their subjects, especially our provincial official’s term of office is about to end.
In politics, timing for staging political bids is important. If announcement came too early, the project came too early, the project would peak too soon and lose steam.
I have read that you may take a crack at a senatorial seat because Vice-President Binay encouraged you to run for Senate since you share the same background on local governance. Some are speculating the possibility including myself you might just throw your hat into the congressional contest.
Political pundit opined that if you are dead set for the candidacy of your brother Rep. Pablo John for Governor you will definitely stay in Cebu and man the fortress for him.
Contrary to conventional wisdom, there is power and glory in giving up “at the right time”. Quitting can help us refocus our energy on other opportunities we can succeed.
To Mr. Tundag
The best answer to the question, “Why did Rep. PJ Garcia choose Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV to be his running mate?” is to ask in turn, “Why not?” After all, what is supposed to be the criterion in choosing a candidate for vice governor? It must be that he should have the qualification to take over as governor if and when the necessity arises.
Mass appeal not only comes first, it is the main factor. It is not enough to be merely popular but simply has to be converted into votes. Boboy Durano’s name was mentioned as a candidate to end up the stand off on the look out for “winnable” candidate whom One Cebu leaders can embrace. As former barangay captain, vice mayor for three terms, he is getting political dividends from frequent meetings with community leaders. Then there is his father mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano, Jr. who he can lean on good governance to the grassroots.
There were political calculations to be sure behind the selection of Boboy Durano. This is what politics is all about. And obviously PJ Garcia’s calculations are to the effect that Durano will be helpful —plus factor—to the ticket. – Doncoy Del Socorro of Tinaan, Naga City
