Papa thought it was leptospirosis that hit his daughter

THE EAR - The Philippine Star

LEPTOSPIROSIS. A 17-year-old daughter of a Cebuano couple in Manila was rushed to the hospital when she complained of stomach pain and nausea. The father feared she had contacted the deadly disease known as leptospirosis as she had been wading in floodwaters with her barkada. “She has the symptoms of the deadly disease,” the father said.

NOT LEPTOSPIROSIS. After a thorough checkup, the doctors (two of them) found out that the young woman was not suffering from lepto but was pregnant. The father said he was ashamed, “mura’g natumpagan ko sa kalibutan.” The mother said: “Bantug rang dili gyud pa-eksamin ang karaho.”
