Theft in an eatery

THE EAR - The Philippine Star

WATCH YOUR THINGS. A physician from a nearby province went to have a snack in an eatery in a shopping mall here. He put a box of medicines below the table he had occupied. After “snacking,” the doctor found his box gone. He brought the matter to the attention of the eatery management but was told that the responsibility of caring for a customer’s personal belongings lies on the customer.

ANOTHER CASE. A similar case happened to an insurance agent who lost his laptop bag with the laptop and some documents inside the bag. He also brought the matter to the attention of the shop’s management but was only told they could not keep track of all the people coming in and out of the place. “Aren’t they liable for the loss of customers’ personal belongings in their premises?” the victim wanted to know.
