CNN's eye on the Phl: What's their agenda?

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila -

Last Tuesday morning when I woke up, I tuned in on Cable Network News (CNN) and saw Ms. Anna Coren live from Manila on their “Eye on the Philippines” focusing on the poverty of our people, many of whom have to eat the garbage or scraps of fast food restaurants. She also talked with a priest about the up and coming Reproductive Health (RH) bill telling him that a survey showed that 70 percent of the people want an RH bill. Pray Ms. Anna Coren… where in heavens did you get that survey? From those who are pouring millions of lobby money so that the Philippines will follow the rest of the world into the turmoil that we are having today?

Perhaps CNN’s Anna Coren ought to look and study the systems of those SWS and Pulse Asia surveyors, including its owners who are linked by blood to the person pushing for the RH Bill and that’s no less than President Aquino. What really is the agenda of CNN… that suddenly it is very interested in the Philippines? Knowing how these networks move like jukeboxes, I suspect that the foreign lobbyists pouring millions into the pockets of our Congressmen and Senators are behind this CNN Eye on the Philippines report because it began with the poverty and the RH bill.

Why doesn’t CNN focus on real issues, like rich and powerful sugar barons who enter politics with the end in view of holding on to their land, even if there is already a Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). Yes I’m referring to the Hacienda Luisita case, which has become the symbol of the tyranny of the rich and powerful against the poor and the powerless. It is issues like this that brought poverty to our nation. Unfortunately, the people paying CNN for that coverage would never want CNN to focus on this.

President Aquino will mark his two years in office this coming July, yet if you looked at the May Day labor street protests, P-Noy’s effigy is already being burned in Mendiola and his leftist allies seem to be abandoning him and worse… these protesters even had a “Noynoying” banner, which means that the masses who voted for him are already fed up with his “do nothing” Presidency. For instance, in Cebu we still have to hear or see an infrastructure project that was planned and designed and implemented by the Aquino regime and to think, Cebuanos voted for P-Noy!

I wish I didn’t have to say this, but what the heck… I will say it because the people who voted for P-Noy ought to realize that many of us who did not vote for P-Noy had a very valid reason, that when he was a Congressman… he was a mediocre one and when he became a Senator, he was a non-performer. With this knowledge and information, logic dictated that we seek another person to support for the Presidency.

But he still won the Presidency because of the Cory magic. But things are starting to unravel, especially that the group called Tanggulang Demokrasya (TanDem) apparently revealed the many serious failures and flaws during the 2010 elections wherein the Comelec totally disregarded the essential safeguards put in the Automation Law.

TanDem also exposed the reality that the digital signatures for the 42,000 PCOS machines were no longer in place as the Comelec removed them. This case could even put to question the legitimacy of the Aquino Presidency as the Comelec broke the very law that they have sworn to implement and enforce. When our own constitutionally mandated body tasked to give the nation a free, fair and honest elections would even dare violate our own electoral laws that placed safeguards on these machines, then it is clear that the Comelec had a hidden agenda to support political candidates.

Many people are undoubtedly losing their confidence for P-Noy, especially from the very group that supported him. My, even the United States of America has quite frankly told the Philippines that they won’t be taking sides in the squabble between the Philippines and China on the disputed Scarborough Shoal. If you ask me, this is a serious blow to P-Noy who always counted on American help against China. But then Pres. PNoy has not learned anything from our World War II history, where the Americans who were firmly in Philippine soil left the country so that the Japanese Imperial Forces could occupy us. Will history repeat again?

Today, Cebuanos are getting a special treat as Atty. Karen Jimeno, Atty. Tranquil Salvador III and Atty. Rico Paulo Quicho; the top defense lawyers of Supreme Court Justice Renato Corona will be the guest speaker of the Rotary Club of Cebu (Mother) at the Marriott Hotel. I also featured them as guest on my Talkshow “Straight from the Sky.” This is one way for CJ Corona to fight back against the black propaganda hurled against him.
