A chance to top the Bar

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Banat News columnist Gerry Auxilio has this advice to the recent batch of bar flunkers: “Not to worry, guys. You're given another chance to top the next Bar.”

I was amused watching on TV that prosecution lawyer who kept covering his ears as Senator-Judge Miriam Defensor Santiago kind of lectured the lawyers during the impeachment trial last Wednesday.

* * *

That was a side-show that removed the monotony of the daily TV coverage of the impeachment trial. Ma'am Miriam should've started her lecture with: “Guys, lend me your ears.”

Did you notice who first brought to the attention of the impeachment court the prosecution lawyer who covered his ears while Senator-Judge Miriam was speaking? No, it was not presiding Senator-Judge Juan Ponce Enrile but non-lawyer Senator-Judge Jinggoy Estrada.

It was Sir Jinggoy who confronted the lawyer and made him admit he did cover his ears. Why? Because he said the "shrill" voice of Ma'am Miriam was hurting his ears. He minced no words in admitting what he did. Although he later said sorry for it.

My friend Teddy H. wants to know: “Would you accept an apology from someone who hurt your feelings but later that someone come out with a statement that he did not regret what he said?”

The Department of Foreign Affairs has presented former Ambassador Francisco L. Benedicto with the department's Distinguished Service Award in recognition of the Cebuano diplomat's 25 years of “exceptional accomplishments.”

Congratulations to the ambassador who is known to his local media friends only as Frank. Frank has served five Presidents starting with Cory Aquino who first gave him the break in the foreign service.
