Lenten fasting or food trip?

- The Ear -

FASTING. Last Wednesday, Catholics observed Ash Wednesday, which signals the start of the season of Lent, a time for repentance and sacrifice. Among the many acts of sacrifice and repentance observed by many Catholics is fasting, or abstaining from food, such as pork, which is why fish and food like lugaw, biko and binignit are popular during Lent.

FOOD TRIP? Some people have other things in mind, however, when reminded of Lent. An Ear informer overheard a conversation of a group of friends who were excited about eating binignit, buwad and biko. “Nagplano plano gyud sila nga mag amotay aron magpaluto. Excited kaayo,” said the informer. “Pero pagkahuman nila ug hinamhinam sa binignit, ni ingon dayon ang usa nga, ‘Naunsa na man ni oi. Di man ni puasa. Food trip na man ni.’ Unya nangatawa silang tanan,” added the informer.
