Many are dying to be home for kalag-kalag

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day are drawing near. Many are now dying to visit their beloved dead.

***

Every All Saints’ Day, I always remember what Thomas Fuller said: “No man should be afraid to die, who hath understood what it is to live.”

***

Mental health cases are rising in the country, according to this news story here. Many Pinoys are going bananas? Maybe the result of our sagging economy.

***

There’s a place in Europe where the cemeteries are now fully booked. So what did the officials do to accommodate the late comers? They passed a law banning anyone from dying for a certain period. Sounds like they’ve gone bananas but the law worked.

***

In another place, also in Europe, where the cemeteries have also become overcrowded, the officials came up with a different solution. They ordered that the dead be buried standing up to save space.

P-Noy is against an all-out-war versus the MILF rebels. Instead he’s initiating what he calls all-out-justice. It’s the same banana. I think. The latter is less belligerent sounding but it’s also shooting activity. Ask the Air Force.

***

P-Noy is a peaceful man. He doesn’t want to scuttle the peace process. He’s letting the MILF do the scuttling.

***

It says here that a large part of the world is being stalked by hunger. If it’s true that a hungry man is an angry man, you know why there is hate in this world.

***

Despite the risk in telling or reporting the truth, despite the death of many Pinoy newsmen who told the truth, the search for and reporting the truth continues. A concerned citizen has this advice to our newsmen and women: “Report the truth and run.”

I got this on my vintage 3210 Nokia: “What do you do before you sleep? Think!” I wondered what the texter was up to. Well, I pray. I count my blessings, thank God and ask for more.

***

The next day I got this other message from the same texter; “What do you do upon waking up?” Of course, I thank God for my being alive and kicking. But I heard some showbiz persons say the first thing they do after waking up is brush their teeth and comb their hair.

To Pete Lapiz: I’ll comment on your e-mail in my next outing. Thank you.
