Drawer-less desks at Customs?

There’s a plan to remove all the drawers from all the desks of the Customs personnel. My guess is that P.Noy wants to prevent rats from making the drawers their “breading” place.

If you have a different guess why desk drawers of Customs personnel might soon be removed, that’s your own guess. And it’s as good as my guess.

No, I haven’t heard of any plan by P.Noy to order the removal of the pockets of Customs personnel. No, P.Noy is not thinking of that. But when worse comes to worst, why not. Hehehe.

A priest said during his homily: “Every Filipino dreams of a better Philippines.” That’s OK. But to make our dream come true, we must not sleep. We must stay awake. Right?

You do a lot of texting? Let me pass on to you what I stumbled on in the Sunday Comics of the Philippines Star. It says: “Scientists predict that by 2150 humans will undergo a permanent change in posture due to frequent texting.”

That’s still a good 40 years away but it’s good to imagine a preview of what the predicted posture would be. As predicted by the comics scientists the posture of the texters four decades from now would be like that of a man or woman looking for load money on the ground as he/she walks on.

It’s like the posture of a person, especially a woman, who did not and still does not believe in those much-talked-about (on tv) anti-osteoporosis medicines. The posture is like the shape of a boomerang.

Everytime I need some raising up or spirit-lifting, I read Fr. Jerry Orbos’ “Just a Moment,” a book of anecdotes and reflections. But one of the anecdotes I read in Fr. Jerry’s book didn’t quite raise me up. It was a downer of sorts. But an eye-opener as well.

Fr. Jerry told a story about two women who brought an old woman to the home for the aged in Tondo. They told the Sisters in the home that they saw the old woman on the street, abandoned and needed food and shelter. After the two women had left, the old woman cried to the Sisters. She was not someone the two women found abandoned in the street. She was their mother.

I had said the anecdote (a true story) was a downer of sorts because I felt really down when I read it. But there was something in it that made me realize the need for children to take care of their parents when the need for them to be cared for comes.
