EDITORIAL - Choose the right leader

-

With the campaign period coming to a close, candidates are taking time today to rest after weeks of grueling campaign. They are now sidelined to their homes ready for the big event tomorrow.

Some of them - or those who have slim chances of winning - have already spent sleepless nights thinking about their political future and the millions they had spent during the campaign.

Those with high chances of winning - or those who are sure winners - are now eagerly anticipating the moment when their hands are being raised by poll officials to affirm their victory.

In tomorrow's elections, it is the battle for the presidency that is the most anticipated. That is because whoever wins will lead us to another six years. But we do not know what the next administration will have for us. Whether it is capable of uplifting the lives of the Filipinos remains to be seen.

As the nation had witnessed, all the candidates for the land's highest post had promised economic prosperity and a corruption-free government. That is understandable because they had been painting a picture that the present administration had lost the credibility to govern with transparency.

The last three months had been enough for Filipinos to know the candidates wanting to lead them in the next six years. Surely, they already have their choice when they troop to the polling stations.

But they need to be wise in choosing for the next leader. They need to vote for a candidate who has more than what it takes to lead this country to eventual prosperity and with transparency.

It's time we show to the world that Filipinos are capable of sending the right leaders into office. It's time to believe in ourselves as a nation that is mature enough to take the right direction.
