Last hurrahs from the Fiesta Señor

- The Ear -

BLOOPERS. Now that the Sinulog is over it’s time to recap some funny things we heard over the air. A TV announcer: “Now we see the San Diego dancers, all the way from San Diego, California.” Another TV announcer: “This contingent is about to perform in the Free Enterprise category.” The San Diego dancers are renowned local dance troupe and are not based in California. The two contest categories are Sinulog Based and Free Interpretation, not Free Enterprise.

JEEP JINGLE. December is long over, so commuters expect they will no longer encounter kids singing Christmas carols in jeepneys. But carolers are singing another tune. While the opening line are still “Ate, kuya…” the chorus usually has these words, and is sung to the tune of “Jingle Bells.”

Señor na! Señor na! Maglipay kita!

Deadmaha ang problema Bisa’g wala’y kwarta, hey!

Commuters are only wondering what they will be singing come February.
