Be wary about the rule of Tom

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Mayor Tom O has warned hospitals and schools not paying taxes to City Hall. Pay taxes or else. It doesn't pay not to pay taxes. That's the rule of Tom.

Those who do not pay taxes to City Hall should pay attention to what Tom says. The latter "payment" could do them good.

I like Ma'am Marietta Lavilles de Egurolla's puns in her Text Views items in this paper. I enjoy reading them. Her most recent: "The swine flu 'hogs' the headlines." No hogwash this, is it?

Who was it who said: "Punning is the lowest form of wit?" One punster said "it is the lowest form of wit because it is the foundation of all wit." And an educator said: "Punning is deprecated by those who are least able to utter it."

Remember that caller whom I called coconut because he acted and sounded like a nut? He called the people in Sunstar "hambugero" thinking I was from Sunstar. Well, he called again after he read my column mentioning him (TF, June l0). He didn't mind about my calling him a coconut. He called up to clarify his earlier statement. He said: "Dili diay taga Sunstar ang hambugero, kamo diha sa Freeman." Ha! Ha! "Oy, oy, oy," I said to him. "What is done cannot be undone."

We're starting to witness some political moro-moro as the year 2010 approaches. Look. GMA is said to be running for Congress so she could fight for the Prime Ministership. Proof that we are headed for the Parliamentary form of government? And here comes Erap. He's also running for Congress not necessarily to serve his district but to block GMA's becoming Prime Minister.

I got it from Lalaine Jimenea's EV Mail, the leading weekly newspaper in Ormoc City, that Richard Gomez is "preparing for 2010." Meaning he's eyeing an elective position in Ormoc where his wife Lucy Torres is rooted. In fact, Richard has registered himself as a voter in his wife's bailiwick. Observers believe Richard would seek a congressional seat. The EV Mail's reporter Maria Vita T. Rodriguez has quoted the popular movie actor as saying: "I see a bright future for Ormoc and I want to take part in making it happen."
