Opinion

Staff of some officials feeling "high horse"

- The Ear -

HAUGHTY STAFF. A graduating college student is trying to get the opinion of some city officials as part of her thesis. But while the officials promised her support, it seems their staff are the ones giving her a hard time. The staff of one official promised to give her questionnaire to the official but would not say when —or even if— she would get it back. The staff of another said the official was always busy but could not say who he was with. What was worse was one of the staff claimed that her official will never answer questionnaires but would not say why. When she later “ambushed” the officials during their regular session she found most of them were glad to accommodate her requests. “Ang mga officials may okay kaayo, but ang mga staff man nila ang gahilas-hilas,” the student told an Ear source.

JUST A TASTE. Two married women who had been neighbors since childhood were comparing their common household peeves. After one woman complained that rats constantly ate her stored food, the other said she does not have this problem as she has an “agreement” with her household rat. Whenever she arrives with groceries she apportions a bit of the food in a corner for the rat to have it. After it tastes the food the vermin then leaves their stores alone. “Patilawa lang gamay ba,” the woman told her friend. “Sounds interesting, but my husband is going to find this hilarious,” her friend replied.
