Letter To The Editor: No one gives way for ambulance

-

My husband and I are now retired, 84 and 80. We go uptown and downtown 10-11 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. for our daily paseo downtown, observing people from all walks of life, a pasttime of retired senior citizens. To quote a General retired friend : "Retired but not tired".

We noticed and I get so upset that when an ambulance siren is blaring, no one give way for the ambulance to pass. It gets stuck in traffic. I look like a fool waving to give way or however the situation looks.

Can we do some training with drivers of our jeepneys, taxis, buses, private cars, etc., to start to clear the way when every one hears the siren?

Worse, if an ambulance gets stuck in a bumper to bumper traffic, the ambulance transfers to the other lane guided by police on duty.

I'm sorry but I get so upset when an ambulance cannot move. It's a matter of life and death for the patient they are rushing to the hospital.

Please make the motorist, and "everyone" driving a car to be more concerned. - Beling Go Ching Hai
